VI Lottery Sponsorship and Funding Requests

The Executive Director of the Virgin Islands Lottery, Mr. Juan Figueroa, Sr. would like to inform the general public that effective May 9th, 2017 applications for donation requests will no longer be accepted until the beginning of the new fiscal year, October 1, 2017. Applications are accepted on a first come first serve basis and the budgeted allotment for this year is exhausted.

This fiscal year (2017) the VI Lottery supported numerous programs which were in accord with our “Make A Difference Pillars”: Education, Economic and Business Development, and Health and Public Welfare, and have a positive impact on our community. We look forward to doing the same in the upcoming fiscal year 2017-2018.

Please be advised that donations are not available for individuals, but for organizations only. Funding requests above $2500.00 are considered grants and will require certain documentation in order for your request to be considered. A formal letter on letterhead, addressed to Juan Figueroa, Sr., Executive Director Designee asking for a donation is also required. Each year the VI Lottery makes significant financial contributions to organizations within our community.

We appreciate your understanding and will always seek to serve you better.

Who will be funded?

Organizations: non-profit, educational institutions, private or government agency, clubs/associations. VI Lottery does not provide funding directly to individuals; must be an established organization.

The VI Lottery does not fund:

  1. 1. Completed or in progress projects.
  2. 2. Awardees that have not submitted Final Reports.
  3. 3. Awardees that have already received funding once in a fiscal year.
  4. 4. Church organizations unless entity is performing an outreach service which benefits a significant number (250 or more) of community members.
  5. 5. Raffles or auctions (i.e. donation of lottery tickets as a prize).

VI Lottery Continues to Support UVI Summer Music Camp

VI Lottery provided a $20,000 grant which covered three (3) full scholarships, supplies, transportation, and theater to deserving students to attend the 2017 UVI Summer Band Camp. A total of 13 students participated from both public and private schools in the summer camp.

VI Lottery Supports Youth in the Martial Arts

The two-day tournament was held June 30 to July 1, 2017 at the Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida, with over 2,500 registered competitors from Jamaica, Brazil, Florida, South Africa, New York, Germany, Puerto Rico, Canada, Argentina, Chile, Florida, Yugoslavia and China just to name a few.

The students performed exceptionally well.

The 22nd Annual Finest Pan Fest was held in December 2016. The presentation highlighted musical talents of students from all St. Croix schools, church and community after school programs. An audience in excess of eight hundred (800) persons joined and attended the Finest Pan Fest, to begin the official opening of the Cruzan Christmas celebration.

VI Lottery is a proud sponsor of a documentary which celebrates VI history, culture, art forms, and politics as a lead-in to the Centennial Commemoration. The documentary creates an awareness of the contributions of Virgin Islanders. In this documentary, Ms. Betina LaRocque interviews Kevre Hendricks, Manager of Fusion Band. VI Lottery proudly supported VI youth baseball players from both St. Thomas and St. Croix, ages 9- 14. They participated in season tournaments held in St. Croix, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Orlando, Florida." We are happy to assist our youth in enhancing their skills and becoming Virgin Islands Ambassadors, stated Mr. Juan Figueroa, Sr., Executive Director of VI Lottery.

VI Lottery Investing In Our VI Youth Athletes

St. Croix Track Club is Victorious in Tampa!

On May 28th, and 29th, 2016 the St. Croix Track Club (STXTC) attended the 25th Bay Area Youth Track & Field (BayTaf) Classic in Tampa, FL at the University of South Florida facility.

The event hosts over 1,500 athletes in three group categories. STXTC accumulated 253 points with 16 athletes to win Group 3 over Impact Athletes from Atlanta, Georgia with 150 points. There were three group categories. Group 1 were teams with over 39 athletes. Group 2 were teams with 21-39 athletes, and Group 3 were teams with 20 or less athletes. In addition, Malique Smith, who just completed his freshman year at University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, earned the Most Valuable Athlete award for placing 1st in the 800m and 400m in 1:54.78 and 49.03 respectively.

VI Lottery Joins in Inspiring Our Youth

Peter Bailey Brings Hip Hop Star Stalley to the St.Croix Educational Complex For NiteCapy Live taping. "Junior and Seniors from Complex and Central high schools were part of the audience and participated in the introspective discussion about achieving and maintaining success. Connecting with the youth and help to inspire them to greatness,” said Stalley, who is signed to mega-star Rick Ross Maybach Music Group.

Peter Bailey, the organizer of this event, is an alumna of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, a nationally recognized Miami-based author and journalist.

VI Lottery Supports VI Children in Chess Tournament

The 5th Edition of the CARIFTA Chess Championship was held at the Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort over the Easter Weekend. Teams from Aruba Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Suriname played alongside USVI children under 12, 16 and 20. Hazel Acosta, a local USVI Player, won 1st place in the Under 18 category. The tournament was a huge success for the island, the USVI Chess Federation and all the children involved.
