VI Lottery - Proud Sponsor of the VI High School Student Rocketry Club

Elena L. Christian Jr. High School Rocketry Club on St. Croix met with President Obama at the Annual White House STEM Fair (Science Fair) in 2015.

The students spoke about their rocketry project and discussed the design components of their model. In June 2015, the rocketry team was selected as one of the five top rocketry teams in the United States and invited to compete in a NASA-sponsored S4 rocket contest in Blackrock, Nevada. The students built a small satellite and flew it on a high power rocket to almost 10,000 feet. Also in 2015, the rocketry students placed eighteen (18th) in the Team America Rocketry Challenge in Virginia, beating out 83 other schools from around the nation. This year 2016 VI Lottery will continue to support these youngsters who will again be competing in the Team America Rocketry Challenge being held in Virginia this May 2016.

“We commend these students for their advance rocketry skills and discipline in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and we support education enrichment and advancement. I am proud of these young scientists and applaud them for their successes over the years and for promoting the territory at the highest levels.”
